Our first and what ended up being our only stop in Belize was the island of Caye Caulker.

We had planned to stop inland as well however we all fell in a little bit in love with the island and didn’t want to leave!

•Crystal clear water. •Free canoe at our hostel. •Caribbean atmosphere. •Amazing food! Lobster everyday. •Great company.

I think anyone who has been here can understand. And if you’ve not been go! If Belize was cheaper people would get stuck for ages!
We spent our days using the free canoe, relaxing at an area called ‘the split’ (a hurricane went through the middle of the island years ago and split it in two). Eating lots of lobster!

We were lucky enough on our first night to meet Tristan while waiting for our lobster (one of the nicest Canadians ever!) spent a few days relaxing with him and then meet again back in Guatemala.

We also did one boat trip with Spearfishing Shack. Very expensive but a great day and we met a lovely couple Daniel & Valentine from Richmond. Unfortunately it was the wrong time of year to see and swim with Manatees.

But we were blessed to swim with a green turtle and a massive loggerhead turtle, lots of stingrays and nurse sharks.

At the end of the day we got the opportunity to go Spear fishing. Of course they gave a us a good briefing through the day on what fish we could shoot. Nothing colourful, no reef fish. Basically just silver ones that are common. However we spent most of our time looking for tiger fish as they are destroying the ecosystem there.

Honestly by this point I was so tired from swimming all day and the weather took a turn starting raining on us!

Rad and I had trouble making out which we could try and shoot. Actually hitting them was also kind of hard. I didn’t catch anything although Rad did! Mavreen ended up losing her buddy somewhere and spent most of the time floating in the ocean by the boat.

On the way back they broke out some rum punch for some drinking games. Very dangerous as you couldn’t really taste the rum. The group only caught a few things but one of the guides (also from our hostel) caught quite a few lobsters so once Home we had a family dinner and cooked them up.

We kept pushing our leaving date back, and just relaxed with some French Canadian girls we meet.

Eventually it was time to leave and head back into Guatemala.
I will definitely be back in Belize one day!
